The Cokeney
Cockney: One born within earshot of the bells of St Mary-le-Bow church, Cheapside. Originally from cokeney, a 14th century word for ‘cock’s egg’ – that is, a small or defective egg. A disparaging term for a town dweller regarded as affected or puny by rural Englishmen.
